Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (Sakhalin Energy) is the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project under a Production Sharing Agreement with the Russian Federation. The company was formed in 1994 to develop the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye gas field in the Sea of Okhotsk offshore Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East.
We undertook conceptual design work to look at a new possible identity for Sakhalin Energy and explore the idea of moving away from their geographical, map-based logo to a more contemporary approach.
Our identity concept retained the colour palette of blue and yellow and the roundel shape, but transformed the logo to become two overlapping circles, one filled with a lighter, fresher blue and the other with a warmer yellow. The intersection is green with a simple shoot symbol. The blue is the earth and the yellow the sun, together creating growth, life and energy for the future.
The identity concept therefore has a depth of meaning, communicating new sustainability values and appealing to international audiences. On the other hand, its impact is in its simplicity, reflecting a new modern and confident global profile for the company.
