An iconic landmark development of 18,500 sq m at the epicentre of Moscow metropolitan life
Smolenskiy Passage has traditionally been known for premium shopping, a positioning
reinforced by its prestigious location. We were retained to realise the full potential of the brand, the building and architecture through a major project to recreate the original luxury feel, blended with modern sophistication.
The previous complex building layout provided some difficult challenges that needed to be overcome and, in order ensure quality of detailing, we were also retained to oversee the implementation of the concept. Throughout the total process we worked closely with Smolenskiy LLC, who developed the retail concept.
The redevelopment, which took eight months, has doubled the space for tenants and shoppers alike. The total leasable area has increased by 20% to 25,000 sq m. Spread over five floors, the upmarket retail and leisure mix will encompass 90 shops and boutiques, 6 restaurants and cafes, a premium supermarket and fitness centre. Tenants will include Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin, Douglas Rivoli, Da Vinci and many others.
The key central feature that visually connects the floors is a custom made chandelier designed by SCG London. It comprises 2532 LED illuminated frosted glass balls hung from the top floor, and was shortlisted as a finalist for the 2011 FX International Design Awards.
The revamped Smolenskiy Passage is set to revive the traditions of luxury shopping within a fashionable, new and elegant environment.
